Green Key
The Green Key Award is a leading standard for outstanding achievements in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operations within the tourism industry. This prestigious certificate represents a commitment by businesses that their tourist establishments will adhere to strict criteria set forth by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). The Green Key signifies a promise from the establishment to its guests that by choosing to stay with them, they are helping make a difference in terms of the environment and sustainable development. The high ecological standards expected from these enterprises are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent inspections.
Description of the Tool:
The Green Key is the first international environmental certification for tourist accommodations (hotels, campsites) and a voluntary label based on strict criteria:
- environmental policy;
- water management;
- waste management;
- energy management;
- environmental awareness.
The criteria are established at an international level and are common for all countries. They are reviewed annually to meet the environmental requirements of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This reassessment is carried out in collaboration with all national coordinators of the eco-label.
